There are several dental solutions to fix a damaged tooth. Minor damage can usually be covered by a dental filling or bonding. More serious damage, however, will likely need a dental crown. My STL Dentist provides high-quality crowns to the patients of Sunset Hills to restore the appearance and function to smiles.
Also called a “cap” because it completely covers a tooth, a crown is a dental prosthetic that is placed onto a tooth to restore its shape, size, and function.
Crowns can be recommended for a variety of reasons, such as to:
To have a dental crown placed in Sunset Hills, you will need to make at least two visits to My STL Dentist. Crowns can be made from several types of materials, such as metal alloys, ceramic, or porcelain fused to metal. A commonly-used material is composite because it is durable and can be tooth-colored to create a natural-looking restoration.
During your first visit, the damaged tooth will be prepared to receive the crown by having a small portion of it shaved down. This will create room for the crown to fit. Any decay present will be removed and the tooth will be cleaned thoroughly. Your dentist will then take an impression of the tooth to send to a dental laboratory where the crown will be made. A temporary crown will be placed to keep the prepared tooth protected until your permanent crown is ready.
Once the crown returns from the dental lab, you will make another visit to your dentist to have the temporary crown removed and replaced by the permanent crown. Your dentist will first place the crown onto the tooth to check the fit. Adjustments can be made as necessary before it is cemented into place.
If you have a damaged or decayed tooth in Sunset Hills, My STL Dentist can restore it with a dental crown.
